Yuli-Yoel Edelstein is one of the most respected political figures in Israel. He has held the delicate position of speaker of the Knesset for five years now, overseeing the work of Israel's unicameral parliament - a task that, by all accounts, he has executed with great efficiency. In this exclusive interview he addresses key questions about the situation in his country. Although he regrets Israel's withdrawal from Gaza, he welcomes the move of the US embassy to Jerusalem and applauds the Trump administration's decision to withdraw from the nuclear agreement with Iran. He also makes a strong case for seeking a real peace with the Palestinians and is delighted at the warmer relations between the Netanyahu government and Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt. These are uncertain times for the entire Middle East of course, but Mr. Edelstein nevertheless believes that a general calm is not unattainable.
